La Trobe University
Case Study
We are proud to highlight our partnership with the La Trobe University Careers team, which focuses on a critical stage of the student journey: the commencement of studies.
Moving beyond the recruitment phase, this initiative is designed to provide immediate, practical support to recently enrolled international students as they navigate the realities of life and study in Australia. La Trobe is currently ranked #1 in Victoria for employer satisfaction, and this project reinforces that reputation by ensuring students are job-ready from day one.
By providing access to our Finding Part-Time Work Course at commencement, the university enables students to proactively address cost-of-living concerns in Melbourne while maintaining a healthy study-work balance. A key priority of this program is ensuring that students gain financial independence safely and legally. The training equips them with a clear understanding of workplace rights, tax requirements, and the specific work-hour limitations associated with their student visa conditions. By embedding these essential life skills into the orientation and commencement period, La Trobe ensures its international cohort is not only prepared for academic success but also set up to thrive in the local community.
The La Trobe Career Ready Advantage
Our course materials were contextualised with the university’s Careers Team to suit La Trobe’s support mechanisms for international students. Students who completed our Finding Part-Time Work Course gained recognition for this activity as a Professional Learning activity for La Trobe’s Career Ready Advantage Award.
The La Trobe Career Ready Advantage Award is an employability program co-designed with industry to help students develop the high-demand skills and personal attributes that employers value most. To earn the award at Silver, Gold, or Platinum levels, students complete a combination of professional learning modules, practical experiences like work placements, and career portfolio items such as refined resumes and mock interviews.
